The hermetic HDSP-078x,-079x/-088x displays utilize asolderglassfritseal.TheHDSP-098Xdisplaysutilizean epoxyglass-to-ceramicseal. ThenumericdevicesdecodepositiveBCDlogicintocharacters"0-9,"a"-"sign,decimalpoint,andatestpattern. ThehexadecimaldevicesdecodepositiveBCDlogicinto 16characters,"0-9,A-F."Aninputisprovidedonthehexadecimaldevicestoblankthedisplay(allLEDSoff)without losingthecontentsofthememory. The over range device displays "1" and right hand decimalpointandistypicallydrivenviaexternalswitchingtransistors. Operational Considerations Electrical These devices use a modified 4x7 dot matrix of light emittingdiodestodisplaydecimal/hexadecimalnumeric information.Thehighefficiencyredandyellowdisplays use GaAsP/GaP LEDs and the high performance green displaysuseGaP/GaPLEDs.TheLEDsaredrivenbyconstant current drivers, BCD information is accepted by thedisplaymemorywhentheenablelineisatlogiclow andthedataislatchedwhentheenableisatlogichigh. Usingtheenablepulsewidthanddatasetupandhold timeslistedintheRecommendedOperatingConditions allowsdatatobeclockedintoanarrayofdisplaysata 6.7MHzrate. Thedecimalpointinputisactivelowtrueandthisdata islatchedintothedisplaymemoryinthesamefashion astheBCDdata.ThedecimalpointLEDisdrivenbythe on-boardIC. Theblankingcontrolinputonthehexadecimaldisplays blanks(turnsoff )thedisplayedinformationwithoutdisturbing the contents of display memory.The display is blankedataminimumthresholdlevelof2.0volts.When blanked,thedisplaystandbypowerisnominally250mW atTA=25C. TheESDsusceptibilityoftheICdevicesisClassAofMILSTD-883 or Class 2 of DOD-STD-1686 and DOD-HDBK263. 5 Mechanical Thesedisplaysarehermeticallysealedforuseinenvironmentsthatrequireahighreliabilitydevice.Thesedisplays are designed and tested to meet a helium leak rate of 5x10-8cc/sec. These displays may be mounted by soldering directly toaprintedcircuitboardorinsertionintoasocket.The lead-to-leadpinspacingis2.54mm(0.100inch)andthe leadrowspacingis15.24mm(0.600inch).Thesedisplays maybeendstackedwith2.54mm(0.100inch)spacing betweenoutsidepinsofadjacentdisplays.Socketssuch as Augat 324-AG2D (3 digits) or Augat 508-AG8D (one digit,rightanglemounting)maybeused. Theprimarythermalpathforpowerdissipationisthrough thedeviceleads.Therefore,toinsurereliableoperation uptoanambienttemperatureof+100C,itisimportant tomaintainabase-to-ambientthermalresistanceofless than35Cwatt/deviceasmeasuredontopofdisplaypin 3.
